Goku saves Vegeta from being absorbed. As Vegeta recovers, Goku continues to fight the thought form of Super Buu. Goku is rapidly losing energy, and just as Super Buu is about to defeat Goku, Vegeta cuts down the pod containing the fat Majin Buu. This causes Super Buu to go mad, as without the fat Majin Buu absorbed, Super Buu cannot exist.
With Goku still unable to phase Jiren, Kame-Sennin gives him one last lesson when he dodges Jiren's attacks himself until the old martial arts master is eliminated. This allows Goku to reach Ultra Instinct, the ultimate technique that allows one to dodge attacks subconsciously, although it only lasts a moment.
However, as the Super Saiyan flies away toward Frieza's spaceship to depart from the dying planet, Frieza refuses to accept defeat and instead uses the power given to him by Goku in a last-ditch attack to finish off Goku off, but an enraged Goku easily finishes off Frieza with a final blast attack, Angry Kamehameha.
