The Eudora area was home to various Native American tribes for thousands of years. The Kansa tribe lived in the Eudora area from the 1600s to the early 1800s. The Kansa lived along the rivers of this region in villages and practiced agriculture. A Kansa village was located at the site of modern day Eudora in the 1790s.
The Eudora United Methodist Church built a new building in 2006, and sold the original facility to individuals for use as personal property. The building served as a private residence for several years. On May 29, 2022, fire severely damaged the building [6] – although it remained structurally intact. [7]
This reach of the river was inhabited by different Native American tribes, including the Kansa and Osage Nation in the 18th century. During 1819-1820, Major Stephen H. Long referred to this tributary as "Warreruza". [4] According to a 1912 encyclopedia, the name comes from an Indian legend, wherein a young woman was crossing the river on horseback.
