Enrollment in 1974 was 26. Classes were held in Mount Carmel Community Church in Prittstown, [10] in four rooms created by remodeling the churches original auditorium. [11] Later, a mobile building was added. Finally, in 1981, the present building, Pritts Hall opened.
Mount Carmel Area High School is located at 600 West 5th Street, Mount Carmel, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. In 2016, enrollment was 420 pupils in 9th through 12th grades. [3] The school employed 39 teachers. [4] It is the sole high school operated by the Mount Carmel Area School District.
Mount Carmel competes in the Chicago Catholic League (CCL). The school's forerunner, St. Cyril, was one of the eight founding members of the league in 1912, and Mount Carmel is one of five remaining charter members. [25] Mount Carmel is a member of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) and teams are stylized as the Caravan.
Mt. Carmel High School was built in 1974, with its first fall semester classes being held at the neighboring Black Mountain Middle School while the rest of the construction was finished. In 1999, the movie Bring It On filmed on the campus, with the locker room, weight room, and football scoreboard making it into the film.
