A diagram depicting newly discovered molecules (PTOX and the NDH complex) as part of the chlororespiratory process in higher order plants like Rosa Meillandina. In the year 2002, the discovery of the molecules; plastid terminal oxidase (PTOX) and NDH complexes have revolutionised the concept of chlororespiration. [2]
Chloroplasts have their own genome, which encodes a number of thylakoid proteins. However, during the course of plastid evolution from their cyanobacterial endosymbiotic ancestors, extensive gene transfer from the chloroplast genome to the cell nucleus took place. This results in the four major thylakoid protein complexes being encoded in part ...

This is a schematic diagram highlighting the components and architecture of the chloroplast, it's not about the precise distribution of pigments. Chloroplast ultrastructure (interactive diagram) Chloroplasts have at least three distinct membrane systems, and a variety of things can be found in their stroma See also: Chloroplast membrane There are some common misconceptions about the outer and inner chloroplast membranes.
Each of the envelope membranes is a lipid bilayer that is between 6 and 8 nm thick. The lipid composition of the outer membrane has been found to be 48% phospholipids, 46% galactolipids and 7% sulfolipids, while the inner membrane has been found to contain 16% phospholipids, 79% galactolipids and 5% sulfolipids in spinach chloroplasts.
