Hinesburg is located in southern Chittenden County, bordered by Addison County to the south. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 39.8 square miles (103.2 km 2), of which 39.4 square miles (102.1 km 2) is land and 0.39 square miles (1.0 km 2), or 1.00%, is water.
The village is in southern Chittenden County, slightly northwest of the center of the town of Hinesburg. It is in the valley of the La Platte River, which flows northwest to Lake Champlain in the town of Shelburne.
