The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland (or simply Elmo in Grouchland) is a 1999 American children's musical adventure comedy film directed by Gary Halvorson (in his feature directorial debut) from a screenplay written by Mitchell Kriegman and Joey Mazzarino, based on a story conceived by Kriegman.

A brief clip from Elmo's World appears in Sesame Street's 2002–2006 intro. In 2009, Elmo's World went on hiatus. It was replaced by Elmo: The Musical in 2012, and returned in 2017. The show is alternated by two more Elmo-centered segments, Elmo & Tango’s Mysterious Mysteries and Nature Explorers, which are both produced entirely with animation.
It was released on VHS and DVD in North America on February 29, 2000. The special was sponsored by Kmart department stores, during the holiday season, "where, no doubt, much Elmo merchandise is on display." [1] This was the last major primetime special for Sesame Street until Elmo's Christmas Countdown in 2007. [2]

The VHS was later reissued by Sony Wonder in 1996. Sony Wonder released the special on DVD in 2004, and was reissued by Genius Entertainment and Warner Home Video in 2008 and 2010, respectively. The 2017 Amazon Video digital download release, reinstated the special's original title of Sesame Street Stays Up Late.
