A terminal emulator, or terminal application, is a computer program that emulates a video terminal within some other display architecture. Though typically synonymous with a shell or text terminal , the term terminal covers all remote terminals, including graphical interfaces.
When it detects a connection, it prompts for a username and runs the 'login' program to authenticate the user. Originally, on traditional Unix systems, getty handled connections to serial terminals (often Teletype machines) connected to a host computer. The tty part of the name stands for Teletype, but has come to mean any type of text terminal.
Epitaxy can involve single-crystal structures, although grain-to-grain epitaxy has been observed in granular films. [1] [2] For most technological applications, single-domain epitaxy, which is the growth of an overlayer crystal with one well-defined orientation with respect to the substrate crystal, is preferred. Epitaxy can also play an ...
Molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) is an epitaxy method for thin-film deposition of single crystals. MBE is widely used in the manufacture of semiconductor devices , including transistors . [ 1 ] MBE is used to make diodes and MOSFETs (MOS field-effect transistors ) at microwave frequencies, and to manufacture the lasers used to read optical discs ...
The other pseudo-device, the slave, emulates a hardware serial port device, [1] and is used by terminal-oriented programs such as shells (e.g. bash) as a processes to read/write data back from/to master endpoint. [1] PTYs are similar to bidirectional pipes. [3]: 1388 Devpts is a Linux kernel virtual file system containing pseudoterminal devices.
Curses is designed to facilitate GUI-like functionality on a text-only device, such as a PC running in console mode, a hardware ANSI terminal, a Telnet or SSH client, or similar. Curses-based software is software whose user interface is implemented through the curses library, or a compatible library (such as ncurses).
