How to Name It? (1986) is an instrumental Indian-Western fusion album by Ilaiyaraaja. [1] [2] This was Ilayaraaja's first fusion music album. The album has musical movements that are dedicated to Tyagaraja, a religious musician and composer from South India (1767-1847) and the Western baroque music composer, J. S. Bach (1685-1750) of Germany.
The function featured a documentary on the composers, followed by instrumental renditions of some of Ilaiyaraaja's most popular compositions performed by a local orchestra. Selected songs from the soundtrack were first introduced by the main cast, director and actor Suriya and were later continued as stage performance by the respective singers.
Ilaiyaraaja was born as Gnanathesigan in a Dalit family in Pannaipuram in present-day Theni district, Tamil Nadu, India, on 3 June 1943.
