Salem (sometimes stylized as S4LEM or SALEM) is an American electronic music band from Traverse City, Michigan. It was founded by Heather Marlatt, Jack Donoghue and John Holland. [3] Salem is considered one of the pioneers of the witch house genre. Salem released its debut album King Night in 2010.
The band's debut release was a split 7-inch single with fellow founding witch house artist oOoOO. The single, titled Roses / Seaww, was released in March 2010. [5] In 2011 they released their debut EP Black Earth That Made Me (Disaro Records) and the DJ mix Chaind Vol. 1 (Pendu Sound Recordings); after that they went on seven year-long hiatus. [6]
In 2013, the band's second studio album, Lightning at the Door, was self-released via their own Bandcamp page; [9] it was later marketed by Tone Tree Music. [1] Their next self-released album was the official live album At The Garage in February 2015.
