She was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1998 [6] and she was named the American Academy of Political and Social Science's 2003 Theodore Roosevelt Fellow. [7] Aiken is also a fellow and past president of the American Academy of Nursing. Furthermore, Aiken is the recipient of six honorary doctorates. [8]
