The SCDNR is governed by the seven-member S.C. Natural Resources Board, with one member representing each of the state's six Congressional Districts and one at large. The board meets monthly. Citizen advisory committees meet periodically. The public is invited to attend all meetings, and comment is encouraged.
It is part of the ACE Basin estuarine reserve area and is managed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR). The area is open to the public from early February to late October and is a popular spot for hiking, biking, birding, fishing, and hunting. A wide variety of waterfowl species inhabit the area.

Botany Bay Heritage Preserve & Wildlife Management Area is a state preserve on Edisto Island, South Carolina.Botany Bay Plantation was formed in the 1930s from the merger of the Colonial-era Sea Cloud Plantation and Bleak Hall Plantation.
The lake is located about 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Lockhart, the nearest town, and about 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Union, the nearest city.It lies about two miles north of the northern boundary of Sumter National Forest, and the shores are mostly wooded, with poplars, black gum trees, and loblolly pines prevailing; [2] cedar trees were planted in the 2010s.
