Somerset (/ ˈ s ʌ m ər s ɛ t / SUM-ər-set) is a borough in and the county seat of Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. [3] The population was 6,046 at the 2020 census . [ 2 ] The borough is surrounded by Somerset Township and is located off the Pennsylvania Turnpike ( I-70 and I-76 ).

The route turns east onto Laurel Avenue and crosses the Conemaugh River and a Lehigh Valley Rail Management railroad line, quickly turning north onto Cooper Avenue.

The highway begins at PA 601 in Lincoln Township and ends at PA 403 in Johnstown. PA 985 goes through the towns of Acosta, Jennerstown, Forwardstown, and Johnstown.
