Founded by Benjamin R. Salvosa and his wife Evangelina D. Salvosa in 1946, it offers programs at the elementary, secondary, undergraduate and graduate levels catering to around 21,000 students. [3] It has three campuses all located in Baguio. The main campus is at the city center, near the Baguio Cathedral and SM City Baguio.
With its desire for helping many students in the city, the school evolves itself offering degree programs in 1951. The Board of Directors changed its name into 'Lyceum of Baguio' in 1976, then changed it to Baguio Central University in 1977. The school continued to expand their academic programs until 2002.

The University of Baguio Science High School, otherwise known as Science High, is the science department of the university. In 1963, sixth grade students from the high school (and some from the city) took a special examination. Passers of the test were put in one class called the Special Science Scholars Section or SSSS.

The school served as a Regional Development Center for Practical Arts in Region I. The degree of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology was offered during the school year 1976–1977. The school accommodated the extension classes of UP Graduate School, Baguio City, for the degree of Master of Management.
