dareo said: your mileage will vary with Optima or other sealed batteries. I'd be tempted to try it for your interior located battery tho. *Checks Prices* Wow, Optima pushing $300 now. Forget that! Costco H8 (49) AGM $177.99 36 month replacement seems reasonable, but you'd probably have to go to Vegas for that.

That is what steered me away from a Optima battery when I replaced the AGM battery in my Jeep. Autozone carried both their Duralast brand, as well as Optima. But the Duralast was priced at $209.00 and had the exact same warranty and CCA as the Optima, which was priced at over $300.00. If you pay more you should get more. In this case you didn't.

I had three Optima red top Group 34R leak over a 8 or 9 year period. The battery performed fine on a load test, but leaked through the two black vent caps on top. I thought AGMs are not supposed to leak, apparently Optima didn't get the message. Here is a photo of the last one that leaked, about three years ago.

billt460 said: The Autozone by me had 2 in stock that would fit. The Duralast, (900 CCA $210.00). And the Optima, (880 CCA $320.00). I can't see paying an extra $110.00 for 20 less CCA, and the same length warranty. (Fewer reserve minutes as well. 170 Duralast vs. 154 Optima).

Now, if that Optima offered a 5 year free replacement warranty, like you mentioned, and like it SHOULD, I would have perhaps considered it. But it doesn't, so I didn't. If these expensive batteries are so much "better", then let the manufacturer prove it with a longer warranty. Then perhaps more people will start buying them.

We had one in our Jeep. It lasted like, a year and a half. Replaced it with a DieHard Platinum (Enersys) battery. Those are by far the best batteries sold, imho, if you are lucky enough to have a battery size where one is available. I should probably avoid the Optima and go for a Diehard. Thanks, you just prevented me from making a bad decision.

In the decade I had running a boat shop and not only seeing, but charging and maintaining hundreds upon hundreds of different brand batteries (some boats had 6) Odysseys are the only AGM battery I've personally seen that are worth the extra money. I have replaced some of my batts recently in my off-road stuff, compared the old and the new ...

Basically, how quickly is "Super Joe" going to get you back on the road again, with all of this back and forth shipping of cores and batteries? These are all legitimate issues that come up when you start shopping for out of stock batteries for your car, that come from God knows where. Especially when your car is dead in some parking lot at 7:00 PM.
