The Maple Fire was a wildfire on Jefferson Ridge in the Olympic Mountains, approximately 23 miles north of Shelton, Washington in the United States. The fire was caused by illegal logging activities, and the resulting criminal trial was the first time that tree DNA has ever been used in a federal trial in the United States.
The ban was issued in response to several large, human-caused wildfires amid the statewide drought emergency and drier-than-normal weather across Washington. The largest fire at the time was the Pioneer Fire in the Okanogan–Wenatchee National Forest near Lake Chelan, which had grown to more than 12,000 acres (4,900 ha). [2]
The state Forest Service has banned outdoor burning in 30 Western North Carolina counties in the wake of a spate of wildfires that have burned thousands of bone-dry acres.
Among the active fires was the 24,000-acre (9,700 ha) Taylor Pond Fire near Yakima.
