Lincoln County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 86,810, [1] making it the most populous "Lincoln County" in the United States. Its county seat is Lincolnton. [2] Lincoln County is included in the Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia, NC-SC Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Lincoln County was created by the Oregon Legislative Assembly on February 20, 1893, from the western portion of Benton and Polk counties. The county adjusted its boundaries in 1923, 1925, 1927, 1931, and 1949.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has an area of 966 square miles (2,500 km 2), of which 952 square miles (2,470 km 2) is land and 13 square miles (34 km 2) (1.4%) is water.
