Walker River State Recreation Area is a 12,300-acre (5,000 ha) state park unit of Nevada along the East Walker River near the city of Yerington. The park is one of Nevada's largest and newest state park units, dedicated by Governor Brian Sandoval on September 18, 2018. [2] The park is composed of four units consisting of historical ranch land.
The program has completed more than 20 transactions and donated land to the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area and Nevada State Parks. In 2018, the Walker Basin Conservancy donated more than 10,000 acres (4,000 ha) and 20 miles (32 km) of the East Walker River to the State of Nevada to create the Walker River State Recreation Area.
The area was previously protected as a Nevada State Park featuring a boat launch and picnic tables. Currently, the Bureau of Land Management manages three campgrounds along the western shore as the Walker Lake Recreation Area. [2] It is situated is within the Great Basin, and located north of the town of Hawthorne, on U.S. Route 95 in Nevada.
Vistas include the eastern section of Walker Pond and surrounding wooded valley. Walker Pond's 104 acres (42 ha) provide opportunities for boating and fishing. [4] A 60-site campground includes a swimming beach for campground users. The park also offers restricted hunting and seasonal interpretive programs. [3]
The Walker River is a river in west-central Nevada in the United States, approximately 62 miles (100 km) long. Fed principally by snowmelt from the Sierra Nevada of California , it drains an arid portion of the Great Basin southeast of Reno and flows into the endorheic basin of Walker Lake .

Bridgeport Reservoir is a man-made reservoir at the lower end of Bridgeport Valley in Mono County, California.Its earth-filled dam was constructed in 1923 by the Walker River Irrigation District, [3] along the East Walker River.
