The Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building is a class-A skyscraper located at 477 Michigan Avenue in Downtown Detroit, Michigan, designed by the Detroit architectural firm of Smith, Hinchman and Grylls. It opened in 1976 to consolidate the offices of federal agencies which were scattered in several locations in the area.
The Detroit City Hall was designed mainly in the Italian Renaissance revival architectural style, but during the design process, a French Second Empire mansard roof was added. It measured 200 feet in length by 90 feet in width, and the tower rose 180 feet tall. [1] It was faced with mainly cream colored Amherst Sandstone.
The Coleman A. Young Municipal Center is owned and operated by the Detroit-Wayne Joint Building Authority, which was created in 1948 by the Michigan Legislature.
