Gulf Shores is located on the Gulf of Mexico, and is the southernmost settlement in the state of Alabama. [2] It is served by Alabama State Route 59 (Gulf Shores Parkway), which leads north to Foley. Route 182 (Beach Boulevard) runs east-west along the shore front, while Route 180 (Fort Morgan Road) runs parallel to it, north of Little Lagoon.
For the 2019-2020 school year, Orange Beach grade 7-10 students and grade 7-10 students in unincorporated areas had a choice between remaining with Gulf Shores schools or attending temporary classrooms established by Baldwin County schools. [15] Orange Beach Middle and High opened in 2020. [16]
Previously Gulf Shores was in the Baldwin County School District. In 2017 all members of the Gulf Shores city council voted to establish the city's own school system. [2] In 2019 the Baldwin County district and Gulf Shores made a formal agreement for Gulf Shores to separate. [3] On June 1, 2019 the school district formally started its operations.
