They are used to uniquely identify a particular piece of equipments through derived identifiers such as MAC addresses, [1] [2] Subnetwork Access Protocol protocol identifiers, World Wide Names for Fibre Channel devices or vendor blocks in EDID. [1] In MAC addresses, the OUI is combined with a 24-bit number (assigned by the assignee of the OUI ...
The [1] IEEE Registration Authority is the administrative body that is responsible for registering and administering organizationally unique identifiers (OUI) and other types of identifiers which are used in the computer and electronics industries (Individual Address Blocks (IAB), Manufacturer IDs, Standard Group MAC Addresses, Unique Registration Numbers (URN), EtherType values, etc.)
The Individual Address Block (IAB) is an inactive registry which has been replaced by the MA-S (MAC address block, small), previously named OUI-36, and has no overlaps in addresses with the IAB [6] registry product as of January 1, 2014. The IAB uses an OUI from the MA-L (MAC address block, large) registry, previously called the OUI registry.

The MAC address that is hard-coded on a network interface controller (NIC) cannot be changed. However, many drivers allow the MAC address to be changed. Additionally, there are tools which can make an operating system believe that the NIC has the MAC address of a user's choosing. The process of masking a MAC address is known as MAC spoofing.
The software shows a graph which displays the network name, the type of security, the vendor, the signal, the channel, and the MAC address of listed networks. [5] A graph showing the history of signal strength can also be displayed. [4] It can be used to join listed AirPort networks without configuration and to join Bluetooth networks as well. [1]
nslookup operates in interactive or non-interactive mode. When used interactively by invoking it without arguments or when the first argument is - (minus sign) and the second argument is a hostname or Internet address of a name server, the user issues parameter configurations or requests when presented with the nslookup prompt (>). When no ...
Virtual machines receive a MAC address in a range that is configurable in the hypervisor. [15] Additionally some operating systems permit the end user to customise the MAC address, notably OpenWRT. [16] Usage of the node's network card MAC address for the node ID means that a version-1 UUID can be tracked back to the computer that created it.
