Frankton Hotel, Commerce Street. Before the 2023 census, Frankton had a smaller boundary, covering 4.83 km 2 (1.86 sq mi). [1] Using that boundary, Frankton had a population of 6,504 at the 2018 New Zealand census, an increase of 1,335 people (25.8%) since the 2013 census, and an increase of 1,716 people (35.8%) since the 2006 census.
Chartwell is a suburb in north-eastern Hamilton, New Zealand. The suburb was named after Chartwell, the country home of Sir Winston Churchill. The area became a part of Hamilton in June 1962 and was officially defined as a suburb in 1974. [3] Most of the housing is private single or 2 level dwellings with little state housing.
The town of Hamilton East merged with Hamilton West in 1877. Many of the streets were named after famous figures of the New Zealand Wars, including Governor George Grey and Maori chief Te Awaitaia, who went by the name William Naylor/Wiremu Neera when he converted to Christianity. [3]
