Lauro "Larry" Zarate Alcala ONA (August 18, 1926 – June 24, 2002) was a well-known editorial cartoonist and illustrator in the Philippines. [1] [2] [3] In 2018, he was posthumously conferred the National Artist for Visual Arts title and the Grand Collar of the Order of National Artists (Order ng Pambansang Alagad ng Sining).
Edilberto Kaindong Tiempo [1] (August 5, 1913 [2] – September 19, 1996 [3]) was a Filipino writer and professor. He and his wife, Edith L. Tiempo , are credited by Silliman University with establishing "a tradition in excellence in creative writing and the teaching of literacy craft which continues to this day" [ 4 ] at that university.
Aquino wrote his dissertation under Edith Tiempo, entitled Poetry as Mythos: The Fallacy of the Rational Heritage and earned his Ph.D. at Silliman University, where he has been teaching creative writing and literature since 1981. He has also served resident panelist at the continuing annual Silliman Writers Workshop.
Bienvenido L. Lumbera (April 11, 1932 – September 28, 2021) was a Filipino poet, critic and dramatist. [1] Lumbera is known for his nationalist writing and for his leading role in the Filipinization movement in Philippine literature in the 1960s, which resulted in his being one of the many writers and academics jailed during Ferdinand Marcos' Martial Law regime.
