The building was built for the West High School, and was converted to Starling Junior High School in 1929, when a new West High School was built.The school was eventually converted to become Starling Elementary School, and closed in 2012 when a new Starling Elementary School was constructed across the street, at 145 S. Central Avenue.
A crowning achievement of the district was the opening, during the 1970–1971 school year, of two new high schools: Westland High School and Grove City High School. These two buildings, planned to house two thousand students, were built in 1970-1971 at the amazing low cost of $18.98 per square foot, or a perpupil cost of $1,700.
The school has grown to over 175 staff members. Initially housed in the Linden Church of Christ, the school now has 5 campus locations (3 elementary, 1 middle, and 1 high school) and a district central office. The school is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools, International (ACSI) [4] and by AdvancED . [2]
As of 2020, it operates 17 elementary schools, five middle schools, and four high schools. Also, there is an online high school called OASIS for selected students at the OASIS headquarters, plus a school for STEM students. Olentangy is the largest district in Delaware County. In 1998, the district had an enrollment of 4,812.

The Metro Schools are a semi-public network of three schools located in Columbus, Ohio, United States, on Ohio State University's campus: Metro Early College High School (MECHS), and Metro Middle School (MECMS). The Metro Institute of Technology, the third branch of the school, closed in 2017.
