In 2018, the park was the most visited Oregon state park east of the Cascade Mountains. The cave is south of Bend just off Highway 97. The Lava River Cave is located 12 miles (19 km) south of Bend on the east side of Highway 97. It is part of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument, which is managed by the Forest Service as part of the Deschutes National Forest. [3] [4]
