Ken Kaneki is a college student who is transformed into a half-ghoul after an encounter with one of them. He must navigate the complex social and political dynamics between humans and ghouls while struggling to maintain his humanity.

Set two years after the ending of the original series, it follows the story of Haise Sasaki, Ken Kaneki's new identity, who is a member of the CCG and the leader of the Quinx Squad, a group of half-ghoul, half-human hybrids who use their ability to attack and defeat ghouls. Yutaka Yamada returns as the composer for the score.
Kaneki walks toward the CCG, carrying Hide's body in his arms, and faces Arima to battle. The next morning, Kaneki, Hide and Amon have vanished along with the other CCG members, leaving only an unharmed Arima, most likely having won against Kaneki, leaving Kaneki's fate unknown. After the credits, it is shown that Touka has opened up a new café.

Ken Kaneki is a young man who befriends the beautiful and enigmatic Rize Kamishiro, unaware that she is a ghoul. Rize reveals her intentions to eat Kaneki but by a stroke of luck Kaneki survives her attack but is mortally wounded. He is saved by an emergency operation, performed by Dr. Akihiro Kanou, transferring Rize's organs into himself.
