In reply to A. User's post on April 13, 2010. If you have the disc for Office Professional 2003 then copy the contents on the disc to a flash drive (Pen drive) using another computer. Understandably, from a business perspective, Microsoft no longer supplies updates and such for its old software. Support has ended for Office 2003. However, I've found that I can use the Wayback Machine - the Internet Archive, to get many of them. Here is a link to the basic download page from 2007.
Dan at IT Associates. Replied on February 11, 2016. Report abuse. IIRC the only big issue when installing Office 2003 on Windows 8/8.1/10 is with Outlook 2003. I think the cryptography used in Outlook 2003 to support saving email account passwords is not compatible with W8/8.1/10 so you would have to constantly enter your password to check email.
I was directed here by the agent at Microsoft support chat. I own a full version of Office 2003 and still have the CD-ROM and Product Key. However, the CD drive on my laptop doesn't work for some reason and I am hoping there's a way to download the files to install on my PC. Please help with this. Thanks.

I have office 2003. When trying to download a newer version Word document with extension 'docx' I am told to download a compatibility pack. Having done so I try to download the same document and I get the same message again. Looks pretty useless, in particular as I am not instructed how to make the pack work.

If it's all of the old documents, go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > File Block Settings. If there are check marks in the rows for "Word 2003 Binary Documents and Templates" and/or "Word 2007 Binary Documents and Templates", clear those boxes, restart Word, and try opening the documents.
