Chariton County is a county located in the north-central portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,408. [1] Its county seat is Keytesville. [2] The county was organized November 16, 1820, from part of Howard County and is named for the Chariton River.
The district encompasses nine contributing buildings and one contributing site of an African American agricultural and vocational school that served Chariton and surrounding counties during the first half of the 20th century. Plans for the school were initiated in 1905 and after it opened it developed and operated until 1956.
