The park was established in late 1967 by the City of Moe Development Association. It was laid out by architect Fritz Suendermann. It opened as the Gippsland Folk Museum in 1973 and was later renamed Old Gippstown. Officially opened in 1973, Old Gippstown provides large-scale exhibits illustrating the history of the Gippsland region.
Moe (/ ˈ m oʊ i / ⓘ MOH-ee) [3] is a town in the Latrobe Valley in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia.It is approximately 130 kilometres (80 miles) east of the central business district of Melbourne, 45 kilometres (30 miles) due south of the peak of Mount Baw Baw in the Great Dividing Range and features views of the Baw Baw Ranges to the north and Strzelecki Ranges to the south.

The town lies on the Princes Highway and the Gippsland railway line approximately halfway between the major towns of Warragul and Moe. The centre contains Bob Whitford Cycling Track and Joe Carmody Athletics Track, an 8-laned synthetic all-weather athletic track, home of Moe Little Athletics Centre and Gippsland Athletics Club.
