The Fuji Excursion (富士回遊, Fuji Kaiyū) [1] is a regular limited express service operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and Fuji Kyuko, between Shinjuku on the Chūō Line (some services extended to Chiba on the Chūō-Sobu Line) and Kawaguchiko on the Fujikyuko Line.
Local trains (which stop at all stations) run about every 30 minutes. As well as these, several Fujisan Tokkyu (Mount Fuji express) services are operated. The line is mountainous, climbing from Otsuki (358 meters (1,175 ft) above sea level) to Kawaguchiko (857 meters (2,812 ft) above sea level): a 500-metre (1,640 ft) ascent over the 26.6-kilometre (16.5 mi) route.
Gotemba station - A 19 km 762mm gauge horse tramway opened to Kawaguchiko in 1898, closed in 1905 but was reopened in 1909. It connected to the Tsuru horse tramway , providing a connection to Otsuki station on the Chuo Main Line until 1919, when it was truncated by 9 km, completely closing 10 years later.
