Westin Hotels & Resorts is an American upscale hotel chain owned by Marriott International. As of June 30, 2020 [update] , the Westin Brand has 226 properties with 82,608 rooms in multiple countries in addition to 58 hotels with 15,741 rooms in the pipeline.
Westin Hotels & Resorts was Starwood's largest upscale hotel and resorts brand. It was the oldest brand within Starwood, founded as Western Hotels in 1930, renamed Western International Hotels in 1963, and then Westin Hotels in 1981. The chain was acquired by Starwood in 1997. [19]
The Marriott hotel chain began when the Hot Shoppes, Inc. restaurant company decided to diversify into hotels. Its first hotel opened in 1957 in Virginia, the Marriott Motor Hotel, adjacent to The Pentagon and Washington National Airport. [4] The company's second hotel was the nearby Marriott Key Bridge Motor Hotel, which opened in 1959. [5]
In September 2016, Marriott incorporated the W chain into its own portfolio as part of its acquisition of Starwood. [12] In 2024, the Delano Las Vegas, located within the Mandalay Bay, became the W Las Vegas. [13] In December 2024, W Hotels opened W Prague at the Grand Hotel Evropa in Prague, its first hotel in the Czech Republic. [14]
The hotel was also inducted into Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, in 1989. [2] The building is currently part of the resort complex known as Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa and is managed by Westin Hotels & Resorts.
Aqua-Aston Hospitality, LLC is a Honolulu-based hotel management company operating a multi-branded line of hotels, condominiums and vacation resort properties primarily located in Hawaii. The chain was purchased by Marriott Vacations Worldwide in 2018.
