English: The old schoolhouse in Rackwick, Hoy, Orkney in Scotland. Originally opened in 1718(?) the school was replaced in 1879(?) by a newer building next door (now the Rackwick hostel). The old schoolhouse now serves as a small museum with informational signage on the walls, some school furniture, and some farming equipment in the yard.
The school moved to a new site at Papdale in phases between 1973 and 1975, and in 1978 the 'old' Kirkwall Grammar School was converted to form part of the Orkney Islands Council building. [ 3 ] [ 4 ] New school at Papdale (1973–2013)
