The Barbican Estate, or Barbican, is a residential complex of around 2,000 flats, maisonettes and houses in central London, England, within the City of London. The Barbican Centre is a performing arts centre in the Barbican Estate of the City of London, England, and the largest of its kind in Europe. [1] The centre hosts classical and contemporary music concerts, theatre performances, film screenings and art exhibitions. It also houses a library, three restaurants, and a conservatory.
It forms part of the Barbican estate, and lies to the west of Wood Street. The Worshipful Company of Barbers owns Barber-Surgeons' Hall, which was established in Monkwell Street in the 14th century. The Hall survived the Great Fire , but was destroyed by enemy bombing in the London Blitz in the Second World War.
