The Thai-specification model was released as the Almera on 7 October 2011 as part of the Eco Car programme. It uses the same 1.2-litre engine as the Nissan March, with a fuel consumption of 20 km/L (56 mpg ‑imp; 47 mpg ‑US), and has either a five-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Although production of the Sunny in Japan ended in 2004, the name remains in use in China and GCC countries for a rebadged version of the Nissan Almera.
