Kanha Tiger Reserve encompasses an area of 940 km 2 (360 sq mi) in the two districts Mandla and Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh. It is divided into two protected areas, Hallon and Banjar, of 250 and 300 km 2 (97 and 116 sq mi), respectively. Kanha National Park was created on 1 June 1955 and was designated tiger reserve in 1973.

2009 (Tiger Reserve) Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary is a sanctuary in Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh and in the Anuppur and Dindori districts of Madhya Pradesh in India. It was established in 1975, under the provisions of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 , and declared as a Tiger Reserve under Project Tiger , in 2009.
As per the section 38 of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, the state governments are responsible preparing a Tiger Conservation Plan which includes planning and management of notified areas and maintaining the requisite competent staff to ensure the protection of the tiger reserve and providing inputs for maintaining a viable population of tigers, co-predators and prey animals.

Panna National Park was declared as one of the Tiger reserves of India in 1994/95 and placed under the protection of Project Tiger. [3] [4] The decline of tiger population in Panna has been reported several times. [5] [6] Two female tigers were relocated there from Bandhavgarh National Park and Kanha National Park in March 2009.
