Note: 3M has a tracking codes and an app to help check for counterfeit N95s, but the program is only for a perplexingly limited number of 3M N95 models. The Aura model I tested in this post, the 9205+, is not one of the N95 models with anti-counterfeiting verification codes.
Especially with electrostatic based N95s etc, the key component is the electrically charged melt-blown material buried in the innards of the mask. This material is what attracts and traps the viral particles via static electricity. The best way of finding 3M masks is though 3m's website itself. They provide a list of authorized suppliers.
The FFP3 masks are ever so slightly more yellowish, under some light sources only, than the FFP2 ones. They're made in different countries (1862+ in Germany, the other 3 in Poland). The latest batch of 9320+ are cut a bit closer to the staples where the top and bottom panels meet.
3M 2091 - P100 particulate filter. 3M 2097 - P100 particulate filter with nuisance organic vapor level relief. This has similar properties to a combined particulate filter and organic vapor cartridge, but is minimally effective for gas components and is more for comfort than anything else. May be useful for sanding down varnished / stained pieces.
The 3m n95 1860 and 1860s have codes to determine whether the masks are counterfeit or authentic so i was wondering if the aura masks have a similar system. Thank you! Archived post.
Unless you need the moisture resistant coating the red strap 1870 provides, you may want to go with retail 10pk / 20pk boxes of Aura 9205+, sold and shipped by Amazon, the 3m.com website marketplace, or Home depot. N95s have to be in their original packaging to meet NIOSH compliance.
