James H. Floyd State Park is a 561-acre (2.27 km 2) Georgia State Park located near Summerville at the base of Taylor Ridge (Georgia).The park is named after Democrat James H. "Sloppy" Floyd who served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1953 until 1974 and was from the area.
Taylor Ridge is the most northwestern ridge in the state of Georgia within the Ridge and Valley physiographic region and is approximately 40 miles (64 km) in length. [1] To the west the ridge is bordered by the Cumberland Plateau region and to the north Taylor Ridge becomes White Oak Mountain at Ringgold Gap although technically part of the same ridge. [2]
Formerly called Taylor Ridge, it was purchased in 2006 from the Sunday Creek Coal Company, and was formerly part of the Sunday Creek State Wildlife Area. [1] The land has a long history of coal, oil, natural gas, and timber production. The AOA negotiated with the Trimble Township Trustees on its use before purchase. [2]

Camping within the Blue Ridge Parkway corridor is prohibited except for permissible parkway campgrounds (Doughton Park, Julian Price Park, Linville Falls, Crabtree Meadows and Mt. Pisgah). In some areas, hikers can cross the BRP boundary lines into the Nantalhala and Pisgah National Forests to camp at well-established campsites.
