A rigid system of rules for the form and order of drawings was applied. Whereas RLM aircraft designations were prefixed by the number 8, glider references began with "108-", for example 108-53 referred to the DFS Habicht.

It was initially unnumbered and simply called the Lehrdivision (Instruction Division) but in later years several Erprobungskommando units of varying size were created to test specific new aircraft, usually numbered with the RLM aircraft designation system airframe number matching the aircraft they were meant to test.
Engines produced before the RLM's designation system was set up are often listed using the same basic terminology. This article should be redirected to German Air Ministry aircraft designation system. I will do so if no-one else does. Adam 06:24, 14 Feb 2004 (UTC) It is, however, the formal name of the agency which produced this particular naming system (which is why it is also preferable to RLM aircraft designation system).
