"Whipping Post" is a song by The Allman Brothers Band. Written by Gregg Allman , the five-minute studio version first appeared on their 1969 debut album The Allman Brothers Band . The song was regularly played live and was the basis for much longer and more intense performances.
According to that album's liner notes, another of the tracks, "A Solo from Heidelberg", derived from "Yo' Mama", was originally intended to appear on Guitar. Similar albums are Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar, Trance-Fusion, Frank Zappa Plays the Music of Frank Zappa: A Memorial Tribute, and The Guitar World According to Frank Zappa.
On stage, Zappa often altered the lyrics of the song and sometimes even the structure, to great extent.
