According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Independence has a hot-summer humid continental climate, abbreviated "Dfa" on climate maps.The hottest temperature recorded in Independence was 108 °F (42.2 °C) on July 12–14, 1936, while the coldest temperature recorded was −32 °F (−35.6 °C) on January 12, 1912.
