[1] He was the 1990 5000m NCAA Champion for Georgetown University and was on the 1987 Distance Medley Relay team at the Penn Relays that set a world record of 9:20.96. Born in Bremen in 1923, he joined the Jungvolk, the junior section of the Hitler Youth in August 1933. Trautmann joined the Luftwaffe early in the Second World War, and then served as a paratrooper.
