Paksat-1R (or Paksat-1 Replacement) is a geosynchronous, communications satellite that was manufactured by China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) [5] and operated by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), an executive space authority of the Government of Pakistan.
The satellite started moving to its new orbital position on 5 December 2002 [9] and it went through a name change from Anatolia-1 to Paksat-1 on 18 December 2002. [10] After a series of orbital maneuvers, the satellite was stabilized at its final location on 20 December 2002 with 0° inclination.
The Paksat-MM1 is a Pakistani communication satellite, which was launched on 30 May 2024. [1] [2] This mission was a joint effort of the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. [3] The satellite was launched from China's Xichang Satellite Launch Centre. [4]
Paksat renamed it Paksat-MM1 (Paksat-Multi Mission 1) and began operations in March 2018. [2] After the lease expired, the satellite was returned to China and relocated to 147.5° East. As of 29 August 2024 (according to flysat.com), it is no longer operational and has been replaced by PakSat-MM1R, a new satellite launched on 30 May 2024. [6]

The SUPARCO Satellite Ground Station (سیٹلائٹ زمینی اسٹیشن) is a major space research center operated by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) in Pakistan. It is dedicated to earth observational and remote sensing technology .
During the same period, a communication satellite project called PakSAT was initiated. Collaborations with the Pakistan Radio Society (PRS) and the University of Surrey in England enabled SUPARCO to participate in satellite engineering projects, contributing to the development of UoSAT-1 and UO-11, which were launched in 1984.
