Venus was an American newsmagazine targeted to LGBT people of color, particularly African-Americans. Established in 1995, Venus was the first national LGBT magazine founded by a lesbian, Charlene Cothran. The magazine was named in honor of Venus Landin (1961-1993), a friend of Cothran's who was murdered by her former lover.
