The first Jungle Squad unit was established at Sik, Kedah in 1949. Training centres were opened in Sungai Buluh, Selangor and in Dusun Tua, Hulu Langat, Selangor which was known as Field Force Special Training Centre (SLPPH). In 1964, SLPPH was transferred to Kroh, Perak then changed to Kentonmen, Ulu Kinta, Perak.

Hutan Melintang (Jawi: هوتن ملينتڠ; Chinese: 半港) is a mukim in Bagan Datuk District, Perak, Malaysia. [1] The town is located next to the Strait of Malacca. The majority of the population works in the fishing industry, which is one of the biggest in Malaysia. Jenderata Estate, owned by United Plantations, is also located nearby.
In October 1969, 1,600 officers and men from the Police Field Force (Malay: Pasukan Polis Hutan; PPH) applied for VAT 69 training of which 60 passed the basic commando training tests. A group of instructors from SAS were sent to Fort Kemar, Perak to supervise the training of the first 69 Commando recruits.
