The Battle of the Brazos is an American college football rivalry game between the Baylor Bears and Texas A&M Aggies. [2] [3] The rivalry is named for the Brazos River that flows by the two schools, which are 90 miles apart. [4] The Battle of the Brazos debuted in 1899.

The in-state rivals have played each other 113 times, with the first game between Baylor and Texas being played in 1901. Only Oklahoma and Texas A&M have played Texas more times than Baylor. Both Baylor and Texas were founding members of the Southwest Conference and the Big 12 Conference. Texas leads the all-time series with Baylor 81–28–4.
Following the wins against Texas Christian University and Fort Worth University, Baylor was considered a strong contender for the state championship if the team could win the game against Texas. Although Texas won, the team's captain, Rembert Watson was injured and missed Texas's next game against Arkansas.
