The Skyrunner World Series is an annual international championship of skyrunning (high altitude endurance races) and the official International Skyrunning Federation (ISF) race circuit for mountain running. [1] Each year the Skyrunner World Series presents a global Sky Racing calendar, attracting mountain running athletes from almost every country.
Skyrunning is a sport of mountain running above 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) where the minimum average incline is 6% over the total distance and at least 5% has an incline of 30% or more. [1] The climbing difficulty does not exceed II grade UIAA. [2] Poles, crampons, and hands may be used to aid progress.
In October 2017 it was announced that Skyline Scotland would host the 2018 edition of the Skyrunning World Championships. [5] The Mamores VK, the Ben Nevis Ultra and the Ring of Steall were the Championship races. The Glen Coe Skyline, although not part of the World Championships, was one of the races in the 2018 Skyrunner World Series. [6]
