The arena opened in 1983. In the winter months, the facility is home to several central Kenai Peninsula high school hockey teams, fighting competitions and the soldotna figure skating team while in the summer the facility hosts numerous local home builders, sports recreation and trading, car, and snowmachine shows, among other events.
The only road access is via the Sterling Highway (Alaska Route 1), which leads northeast 22 miles (35 km) to Soldotna and south 53 miles (85 km) to Homer. According to the United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 13.4 square miles (34.6 km 2 ), of which 0.01 square miles (0.02 km 2 ), or 0.06%, are water.
