Juliane Margaret Beate Koepcke (born 10 October 1954), is a German-Peruvian mammalogist who specialises in bats. The daughter of German zoologists Maria and Hans-Wilhelm Koepcke , lightning struck the 1971 LANSA Flight 508 where she became the sole survivor of the crash.
On 24 December 1971, Koepcke's wife Maria was killed in the crash of LANSA Flight 508 in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. Their daughter, Juliane, who was on the flight with her mother was the sole survivor of the crash, having fallen from 3,000 m (10,000 ft) still strapped into her seat.
