Robert James Shave Jr. (born c.1936 [1]) is an American professional golfer. Shave was born in Willoughby, Ohio. He played college golf at Florida State University, where he was a 2nd-Team All-American. [2] He played on the PGA Tour for six years, and had 21 top-10 finishes. [3]
The Senior PGA Championship, founded in 1937, was for many years the only high-profile tournament for golfers over 50.The idea for a senior tour grew out of a highly successful event in 1978, the Legends of Golf at Onion Creek Club in Austin, Texas, which featured competition between two-member teams of some of the greatest older golfers of that day. Unlike mainstream men's golf, the senior game does not have a globally agreed set of majors. The three majors recognized by the European Senior Tour are the Senior PGA Championship and the U.S. and British Senior Opens. However, the Champions Tour is much more dominant in global senior golf than the PGA Tour is in mainstream men's golf.
