Buffy Summers (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar) is the "Slayer", one in a long line of young women chosen by fate to battle evil forces. This mystical calling grants her powers that dramatically increase physical strength, endurance, agility, accelerated healing, intuition, and a limited degree of precognition, usually in the form of prophetic dreams.
After Dawn panics at losing Buffy again, Willow discovers that the demon can only survive if Buffy is killed. The demon, which had been housed in Xander's body while Willow shared this information, heads for the Slayer. Buffy is attacked by the formless demon. Willow and Tara cast a spell to make the demon solid, and Buffy kills it with an axe.
At school, Buffy pulls Dawn out of class into the hall. Through the windows of the art room, the class watches Buffy tell her that Joyce has died. Dawn collapses, wailing. Xander and Anya arrive at Willow's dormitory room where Tara tries to help a panicked Willow find a shirt to wear, as Willow does not know how to appear for Buffy and Dawn.
Buffy and Angel looking at each other before parting. Buffy visits Angel and forces him to drink her blood, allowing Angel to recover. He takes Buffy, now near death herself, to a hospital. Nearby, the Mayor is informed that Faith is alive but in a coma from which she may never recover. The Mayor tries to suffocate Buffy, but Angel stops him.
Buffy saves the lives of the remaining Potentials, reconciles with her friends and finally makes peace with Faith. As the Hellmouth becomes more active, nearly all humans and supernatural creatures flee Sunnydale, turning the town into a ghost town. Buffy and her friends stay behind in an effort to defeat The First.
Buffy then receives a call from Angel at the end of "Flooded", and immediately leaves to meet with him. Although the phone call scenes happen on screen, neither Willow's side on Angel nor Angel's side on Buffy is shown. The scene between Buffy and Angel also happens off screen, but is described by them in the following episodes.
After Xander comes to, Buffy sends him to find some rope to help them get out. When Buffy and Dawn quarrel over Buffy's protective behavior, Anya briefly appears, telling them that Willow is raising a satanic temple named Proserpexa of dark magic from underground, and intends to use its artifacts to end the world by draining its life energies.
Buffy and her allies confront Glory just as the ritual is to begin. Willow launches a magic attack, confusing and dazing Glory, while restoring Tara's sanity. Buffy attacks Glory with the Dagon Sphere, but Glory manages to destroy it. As they fight, Glory punches off her head, revealing she has been actually fighting Buffy's robot double. Buffy ...
