[ 5 ] This number likely includes citizens, legal residents, visitors, and the aforementioned refugees and asylum seekers.
The population over the age of 65 is 10.2% (up from 7.1% in 2007). As of 2023, the median age of the Turkish population is 34 years (up from 28.3 in 2007). [6] According to OECD/World Bank population statistics, from 1990 to 2008 the population growth in Turkey was 16 million or 29%. [7]
The demographics of the Middle East and North Africa region show a highly populated, culturally diverse region spanning three continents. As of 2023, the population was around 501 million. [ 1 ] The class, cultural, ethnic, governmental, linguistic and religious make-up of the region is highly variable.

[1] [2] Afghanistan is not always considered part of the region, but when it is, Central Asia has a total population of about 122 million (2016); Mongolia and Xinjiang (part of China) is also sometimes considered part of Central Asia due to its Central Asian cultural ties and traditions, although geographically it is East Asian.
Afghan diaspora refers to the Afghan people that reside and work outside of Afghanistan. They include natives and citizens of Afghanistan who have immigrated to other countries. The majority of the diaspora has been formed by Afghan refugees since the start of the Soviet–Afghan War in 1979; the largest numbers temporarily reside in Iran .
